Novena to Blessed Father Damien (leper Priest)
Prayer for everyday.
O Sacred Heart of Jesus! I feel immense joy and unlimited confidence in contemplating the numerous favors which you granted to those who with faith and humility have recourse to You through the mediation of Your servant Father Damien, who for the love of You overcame the repugnance of his senses and gave himself up body and soul to the care of the poor lepers of Molokai.
Impelled be confidence in his power of intercession with You and inspired by his ardent charity for all the afflicted, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You with all the fervor of which I am capable, this novena of praise and petition to obtain the grace for which I ask, if it be for Your greater glory, and the good of my soul, or if not, I beg for the grace to resign myself entirely to Your adorable designs on this request which I commend to You. Amen
First Day
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, through the GENEROSITY with which Father Damien responded to Your divine call, always seeing everything with great faith the Holy Will of God, I earnestly be You through the Immaculate Heart of Mary that in addition to the particular favor I ask in this novena, to grant me the grace of being always faithful to Your Will so that the faith I received in Baptism may grow and deepen unceasingly in my soul. Amen

Second Day
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, remembering the UNDAUNTED HOPE which sustained Father Damien during his life and confiding in Your Paternal Providence, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary I humbly beg You that in addition to the particular grace I ask in this novena, to grant me the favor of never becoming discouraged by heavenly hope that I might always live confidently in Your Merciful Love. Amen

Third Day
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, through the ARDENT CHARITY which Father Damien from childhood felt for the needy poor, I beg You, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary to grant me in addition to the particular grace of this novena, the grace of having my heart inflamed more and more everyday with the Divine Love with which You are inflamed and with which You desire to enkindle the hearts of all. Amen

Fourth Day
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, through that PROFOUND HUMILITY which adorned the soul of Father Damien and which made him obey faithfully and constantly the least indications of his Superiors and which made him consider it a most natural thing to isolate himself forever with the lepers of Molokai, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary I humbly beg You that in addition to the particular grace I ask in this novena, I may not allow myself to be governed in my thoughts, words or deeds by the passion of pride which offend You so much and brings so much evil to the world and to whoever follows it maxims. Amen

Fifth Day
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, through the INQUENCHABLE ZEAL for the temporal and spiritual good of his beloved lepers which consumed the soul of Father Damien, even to the point of causing him to give his life for them, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary I humbly beseech You that in addition to the particular grace I ask in this novena, to grant me the grace of being more truly concerned with my spiritual welfare and the salvation of others. Amen

Sixth Day
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, through that LOVE OF WORK which from childhood characterized Father Damien in all his occupations no matter how ordinary and tiresome they were, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary I humbly beg You that in addition to the particular grace I ask in this novena, to grant me a great spirit of faith to see the graces of the present moment as the most efficacious means to procure the Glory of God, the salvation of souls, and my own sanctification. Amen

Seventh Day
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, through that CONSTANCY AND ADMIRABLE FORTITUDE with which Father Damien suffered first in others, then in his own body, the painful disease of leprosy, uniting his pain to the pain of solitude and helplessness to remedy the need around him, I humbly be You through the Immaculate Heart of Mary that in addition to the particular favor I ask in this novena, to grant me the grace of accepting always with resignation the sufferings and tribulations of this life. Amen

Eight Day
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, through the TENDER DEVOTION WHICH FATHER DAMIEN ALWAYS HAD FOR THE BLESSED VIRGIN, I ardently supplicate You, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, that in addition to the particular favor I ask in this novena to grant me the grace of acting always as Your loving child so that I may merit one day the happiness of being presented by Her before Your tribunal to enjoy Your company in heaven forever. Amen

Ninth Day
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, through that IMMENSE LOVE WHICH FATHER DAMIEN HAD FOR THE DIVINE EUCHARIST as food for his soul in his Masses and communions and as his consolation in his fervent adorations before the Tabernacle, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary I ardently beg You that in addition to the particular grace I ask in this novena, to grant me an increase of devotion to Holy Mass and to the Blessed Sacrament and that each day I may prepare my heart more worthily and more fervently to receive You in Holy Communion. Amen
