Poem to Saint Joseph
(By Matthew Schumann)
Saint Joseph
I plead with you
Please help me
To find
My own virgin
Dear
Allow me
To be here
While she is
There
And grab with your
Rusty carpenter hands
That bend between
Her and me
So that it twists
In the palm of your
Grace
And our destinies
Become one
The destiny
Of romantic lilies
Who bloom only
In the evening
Of darkness and
Moonlight
With stars like
Candles in glasses
Broken so that
Their lights
Drip down from
That ancient wall
Of black and
Swirling whites
Dust from galaxies
Far away
Oh Saint Joseph!
My heart yearns
For her!
My soul mourns
And cannot take
This repeated hour
Of loneliness!
Bring her
To my side
So I can
Make her
My only bride!
I have
No more sins
To hide
From her
Or from you
Nor from Him
Our Lord
And your
Perfect Bride
She is
Brilliant
Gold
And she never
Becomes old
Not once
Not ever
Oh father
Of my
Shepard
Call in
Your sheep
And may one of them
Be counted among
The ones who are
Counted as
Belonging
To that Sacred
Family of
Everlasting Love
And may she
Be one
Of those
Who pose
In the evening
And call to me
In her
Charity
Amen!
